Puerto galera - Apo Reef Diving
Join the Marco Vincent dive team on our dive safari’s to the UNESCO World heritage site of Apo Reef. This is the second biggest coral reef system in the world and covers 34 square kilometers. We spend 3 days diving on some of the finest dive sites the Philippines has to offer. Apo Reef is around a 12 hour boat ride from our resort in White Beach. Our trips are available from November to June each year.
Our safari vessel ‘Big Beth’ is capable of sleeping eight guests. We have two cabins and a large room with 4 single beds. The boat comes equipped with A/C, hot showers, towels, linen and we also provide you with toiletries for the trip. Our on board chef will freshly prepare 3 meals a day from our international menu. All soft drinks and snacks are also included. The boat steward will take care of your every need during the dive safari.
Big Beth has been constructed to comply with the Philippine Marina standards. We have GPS system on board, VHF radio, radar plus DAN 02 and first aid kits. We have an onboard compressor and nitrox is available. If you are not nitrox certified it’s possible to do the course on the way to Apo Reef. We have a charging Station for underwater photographers and separate rinse tanks for cameras. You will not have to lift a finger during the safari; our boat crew will do everything from changing your tank to putting your fins on for you.
The diving at Apo Reef will really take your breath away. The diving is mostly on deep walls and some areas are affected by currents. If you want to go deep here then you should have your advance certification. It is ok to have an open water certificate as there are still many things to see above 60ft/18m. Apo Reef is well known for its pelagic action, for fans of macro this is not really the place for you.
You can see many of the best pelagic species at Apo Reef. For fans of sharks you can see White Tips on many of the dive sites. Black tip and Grey Reef sharks are also regular visitors. In the deeper waters you can see Hammer heads and Thresher sharks on occasions. Whale sharks and Manta rays are also seen but these sightings are not guaranteed. The tornado of Jacks can be seen, Barracuda, Tuna, Giant Trevally are often hunting on top of the reefs. Favorites like the Napoleon Wrasse and turtles complete a pretty amazing list. For fans of coral there are some of the healthiest coral gardens you will see outside of Tubbataha. The outer reefs are a little more weathered but are still worth a visit because you never know your luck on what you might see.
